Directory traversal vulnerability in services/getfile.php in the Paid Memberships Pro plugin before 1.7.15 for WordPress allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the QUERY_STRING in a getfile action to wp-admin/admin-ajax.php.
The weakness was published 11/28/2014 by Kacper Szurek (Website). The advisory is shared at wordpress.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-8801 since 11/13/2014. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
A public exploit has been developed by Kacper Szurek and been published even before and not after the advisory. The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. Upgrading to version 1.7.14.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
