IBM Java prior 7.0.4.0 code injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in IBM Java (Programming Language Software). Affected is some unknown processing. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Unspecified vulnerability in IBM Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 7 R1 before SR2 (7.1.2.0), 7 before SR8 (7.0.8.0), 6 R1 before SR8 FP2 (6.1.8.2), 6 before SR16 FP2 (6.0.16.2), and before SR16 FP8 (5.0.16.8) allows local users to execute arbitrary code via vectors related to the shared classes cache.

The weakness was shared 12/01/2014 as Bug 1162554 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2014-3065 since 04/29/2014. The attack needs to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 79378 (RHEL 5 / 6 : java-1.5.0-ibm (RHSA-2014:1881) (POODLE)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Red Hat Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 167631 (SUSE Enterprise Linux Security update for java-1_6_0-ibm (SUSE-SU-2015:0392-1)).

Upgrading to version 7.0.4.0 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (93629) and Tenable (79378). The entry 73045 is related to this item.
