Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the import functionality in the bookmarks application in ownCloud before 5.0.18, 6.x before 6.0.6, and 7.x before 7.0.3 allows remote authenticated users to inject arbitrary web script or HTML by importing a link with an unspecified protocol. NOTE: this can be leveraged by remote attackers using CVE-2014-9041.

The weakness was published 02/04/2015 by Lukas Reschke (Website). The advisory is shared for download at owncloud.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2014-9042 since 11/21/2014. The attack may be launched remotely. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 82561 (Mandriva Linux Security Advisory : owncloud (MDVSA-2015:190)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Mandriva Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 13100 (ownCloud Multiple Vulnerabilities).

Upgrading to version 5.0.6 eliminates this vulnerability.
