The weakness was presented 03/03/2015 by NSFocus Security Team (Cloudfuzzer) with NSFOCUS Security Team as Stable Channel Update, March 2015 as confirmed release notes (Website). The advisory is shared at googlechromereleases.blogspot.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-1219 since 01/21/2015. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 81618 (FreeBSD : chromium -- multiple vulnerabilities (8505e013-c2b3-11e4-875d-000c6e25e3e9)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 196022 (Ubuntu Security Notification for Oxide-qt Vulnerabilities (USN-2521-1)).

Upgrading to version 41.0.2272.76 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at chrome.google.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 19247.
