Heap-based buffer overflow in openfs.c in the libext2fs library in e2fsprogs before 1.42.12 allows local users to execute arbitrary code via crafted block group descriptor data in a filesystem image.
The weakness was released 02/17/2015 by Jose Duart with Google Security Team as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at ocert.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2015-0247 since 11/18/2014. The exploitation appears to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 12.04 eliminates this vulnerability.
