The weakness was presented 04/14/2015 with Microsoft as MS15-036 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared for download at technet.microsoft.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-1653 since 02/17/2015. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 82773 (MS15-036: Vulnerabilities in Microsoft SharePoint Server Could Allow Elevation of Privilege (3052044)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 110253 (Microsoft SharePoint Server Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability (MS15-036)).

Applying the patch MS15-036 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com.
