A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Magento. Affected is the function getCsvFile. The manipulation of the argument popularity[field_expr] with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. SQL injection vulnerability in the getCsvFile function in the Mage_Adminhtml_Block_Widget_Grid class in Magento Community Edition (CE) 1.9.1.0 and Enterprise Edition (EE) 1.14.1.0 allows remote administrators to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the popularity[field_expr] parameter when the popularity[from] or popularity[to] parameter is set.

The weakness was published 04/29/2015 with Check Point (Website). The advisory is available at blog.sucuri.net. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2015-1397 since 01/27/2015. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The requirement for exploitation is a authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1505 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 83304 (Magento Mage_Adminhtml_Block_Report_Search_Grid Class 'popularity' Parameter SQLi), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 13132 (Magento Multiple Authentication Bypass Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 21825.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (83304). Similar entries are available at 75151, 75152, 75156 and 75157.
