The dissect_lbmr_pser function in epan/dissectors/packet-lbmr.c in the LBMR dissector in Wireshark 1.12.x before 1.12.5 does not reject a zero length, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (infinite loop) via a crafted packet.
The weakness was disclosed 05/12/2015 by Vlad Tsyrklevich as wnpa-sec-2015-12 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at wireshark.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-3808 since 05/07/2015. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 83960 (Debian DSA-3277-1 : wireshark - security update), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 115076 (Wireshark Multiple Denial of Service Vulnerabilities (wnpa-sec-2015-12 to wnpa-sec-2015-18)).
Upgrading to version 1.12.5 eliminates this vulnerability.
