A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Moodle up to 2.5.9/2.6.6/2.7.3/2.8.1 (Learning Management Software). This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the file auth/shibboleth/logout.php of the component Shibboleth Module. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross-site request forgery vulnerability (Logout). The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-352. The web application does not, or can not, sufficiently verify whether a well-formed, valid, consistent request was intentionally provided by the user who submitted the request. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. CVE summarizes:

Cross-site request forgery (CSRF) vulnerability in auth/shibboleth/logout.php in Moodle through 2.5.9, 2.6.x before 2.6.7, 2.7.x before 2.7.4, and 2.8.x before 2.8.2 allows remote attackers to hijack the authentication of arbitrary users for requests that trigger a logout.

The weakness was released 06/01/2015 by SkOd (Website). The advisory is available at moodle.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-0218 since 11/18/2014. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.

By approaching the search of inurl:auth/shibboleth/logout.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 81360 (Fedora 21 : moodle-2.7.5-1.fc21 (2015-1751)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Fedora Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 123327 (Fedora Security Update for moodle (FEDORA-2015-1751)).

Upgrading to version 2.6.7, 2.7.4 or 2.8.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
