Microsoft Office 2013 SP1 and 2013 RT SP1 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted Office document, aka "Microsoft Office Uninitialized Memory Use Vulnerability."

The weakness was released 06/10/2015 with MWR Labs as MS15-059 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). It is possible to read the advisory at technet.microsoft.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-1770 since 02/17/2015. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 84055 (MS15-059: Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office Could Allow Remote Code Execution (3064949)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 110256 (Microsoft Office Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (MS15-059)). The CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog lists this issue since 03/28/2022 with a due date of 04/18/2022:

Applying the patch MS15-059 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 19920.
