The weakness was released 06/10/2015 as APSB15-11 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at helpx.adobe.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2015-3102 since 04/09/2015. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 84158 (Adobe AIR <= 17.0.0.172 Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB15-11)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 100238 (Microsoft Windows Update for Vulnerabilities in Adobe Flash Player in Internet Explorer (KB3065820)).

Upgrading to version 18.0.0.160 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 19969.
