A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in libmspack up to 0.4. This issue affects the function cabd_extract
of the file cabd.c of the component CAB Archive Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
The cabd_extract function in cabd.c in libmspack before 0.5 does not properly maintain decompression callbacks in certain cases where an invalid file follows a valid file, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference and application crash) via a crafted CAB archive.
The weakness was published 06/11/2015 by Jakub Wilk as confirmed mailinglist post (oss-sec). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-9732.
