A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in XCloner Plugin 3.1.2 on WordPress (WordPress Plugin). Affected is an unknown function of the file cloner.functions.php of the component Filename Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a command injection vulnerability. cloner.functions.php in the XCloner plugin 3.1.2 for WordPress allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands via a file containing filenames with shell metacharacters, as demonstrated by using the backup comments feature to create the file.
The weakness was presented 06/17/2015 by Larry W. Cashdollar (Website). The advisory is available at vapid.dhs.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2015-4336 since 06/05/2015. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The successful exploitation requires a authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1202 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
By approaching the search of inurl:cloner.functions.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 10767 (WordPress XCloner Plugin Cross Site Scripting and Remote Command Execution Vulnerabilities).
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
