Static code injection vulnerability in the XCloner plugin 3.1.2 for WordPress allows remote authenticated users to inject arbitrary PHP code into the language files via a Translation LM_FRONT_* field for a language, as demonstrated by language/italian.php.
The weakness was published 06/17/2015 by Larry W. Cashdollar (Website). The advisory is shared for download at vapid.dhs.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-4338 since 06/05/2015. The attack may be launched remotely. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.
By approaching the search of inurl:language/italian.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 10767 (WordPress XCloner Plugin Cross Site Scripting and Remote Command Execution Vulnerabilities).
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
