Heap-based buffer overflow in Adobe Flash Player before 13.0.0.296 and 14.x through 18.x before 18.0.0.194 on Windows and OS X and before 11.2.202.468 on Linux allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via unspecified vectors, as exploited in the wild in June 2015.
The weakness was presented 06/23/2015 with FireEye as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at technet.microsoft.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2015-3113 since 04/09/2015. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
A public exploit has been developed in Ruby. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as highly functional. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. A worm is spreading, which is automatically exploiting this vulnerability. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 84391 (RHEL 5 / 6 : flash-plugin (RHSA-2015:1184)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Red Hat Local Security Checks. The impacted product is end-of-life and should be disconnected if still in use.
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 19563.
