Microsoft SQL Server 2008/2008 R2/2012/2014 injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Microsoft SQL Server 2008/2008 R2/2012/2014 (Database Software). This issue affects some unknown processing. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-74. The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP3 and SP4, 2008 R2 SP2 and SP3, 2012 SP1 and SP2, and 2014, when transactional replication is configured, does not prevent use of uninitialized memory in unspecified function calls, which allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code by leveraging certain permissions and making a crafted query, as demonstrated by the VIEW SERVER STATE permission, aka "SQL Server Remote Code Execution Vulnerability."

The weakness was shared 07/14/2015 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at technet.microsoft.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-1762 since 02/17/2015. The attack may be initiated remotely. Required for exploitation is a simple authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1055 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 84737 (MS15-058: Vulnerabilities in SQL Server Could Allow Remote Code Execution (3065718) (uncredentialed check)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 19983 (Microsoft SQL Server Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (MS15-058)).

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (84737), SecurityFocus (BID 75653†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-51198†). The entries VDB-76438 and VDB-76440 are related to this item.
