Untrusted search path vulnerability in Windows Media Device Manager in Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP2, Windows Vista SP2, Windows Server 2008 SP2 and R2 SP1, and Windows 7 SP1 allows local users to gain privileges via a Trojan horse DLL in the current working directory, as demonstrated by a directory that contains a .rtf file, aka "DLL Planting Remote Code Execution Vulnerability."
The weakness was released 07/14/2015 as MS15-069 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared for download at technet.microsoft.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-2369 since 03/19/2015. The attack needs to be approached locally. A single authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1574.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 84734 (MS15-069: Vulnerabilities in Windows Could Allow Remote Code Execution (3072631)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 91064 (Microsoft Windows Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (MS15-069)).
Applying the patch MS15-069 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 20113.
