The Spellcheck API implementation in Google Chrome before 44.0.2403.89 does not use an HTTPS session for downloading a Hunspell dictionary, which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to deliver incorrect spelling suggestions or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted file, a related issue to CVE-2015-1263.

The weakness was shared 07/23/2015 by Chamal De Silva (Cloudfuzzer) with Baidu X-Team as Stable Channel Update, July 2015 as confirmed release notes (Blog). The advisory is shared at googlechromereleases.blogspot.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2015-1288 since 01/21/2015. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
