The regular-expression implementation in Google V8, as used in Google Chrome before 44.0.2403.89, mishandles interrupts, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) via crafted JavaScript code, as demonstrated by an error in garbage collection during allocation of a stack-overflow exception message.

The weakness was shared 07/23/2015 as Stable Channel Update, July 2015 as confirmed release notes (Blog). The advisory is available at googlechromereleases.blogspot.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2015-5605 since 07/20/2015. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 85003 (openSUSE Security Update : Chromium (openSUSE-2015-513)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 196203 (Ubuntu Security Notification for Oxide-qt Vulnerabilities (USN-2677-1)).

Upgrading to version 44.0.2403.89 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at chrome.google.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
