Heap-based buffer overflow in the ParseValue function in lexer.c in tidy before 4.9.31 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via vectors involving a command character in an href.
The weakness was presented 08/11/2015 by Geoff (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2015-5522 since 07/14/2015. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 84831 (Debian DLA-273-1 : tidy security update), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 168028 (SUSE Enterprise Linux Security update for tidy (SUSE-SU-2015:1513-1)).
Upgrading to version 4.9.31 eliminates this vulnerability.
