A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Windows up to Vista (Operating System). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-2462 since 03/19/2015. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 85348 (MS15-080 : Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Graphics Component Could Allow Remote Code Execution (3078662)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 91085 (Microsoft Graphics Component Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (MS15-080)).
Applying the patch MS15-080 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 20336.
