IBM Domino Server 8.5/9.0.1 cross site scripting

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in IBM Domino Server 8.5/9.0.1 (Groupware Software). It has been classified as problematic. Affected is some unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-80. The software receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. This is going to have an impact on integrity.

The weakness was published 08/10/2015 by Adriano Marcio Monteiro with Brazuca Security as swg21963016 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at www-01.ibm.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2015-2014 since 02/19/2015. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. A authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007. The advisory points out:

IBM Domino Web Server is vulnerable to open redirect cross-site scripting, caused by improper validation of user-supplied input. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability using a specially-crafted URL to execute script in a victim's Web browser within the security context of the hosting Web site, once the URL is clicked. An attacker could use this vulnerability to steal the victim's cookie-based authentication credentials.

Applying the patch 8.5.3 Fix Pack 6/9.0.1 Fix Pack 3 is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
