The weakness was published 08/11/2015 by Maxime Villard with Google Security Team as HT205031 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2015-5768 since 08/06/2015. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
A public exploit has been developed in Ruby. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $5k-$25k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 123806 (Apple Mac OS X v10.10.5 and Security Update 2015-006 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2015-08-13-2)).
Upgrading to version 10.10.5 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
