Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in forms/panels.php in the GD bbPress Attachments plugin before 2.3 for WordPress allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the tab parameter in the gdbbpress_attachments page to wp-admin/edit.php.

The weakness was disclosed 08/18/2015 (Website). The advisory is shared at wordpress.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2015-5481 since 07/10/2015. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.

By approaching the search of inurl:forms/panels.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 11510 (WordPress GD bbPress Attachments Plugin Multiple Security Vulnerabilities).

Upgrading to version 2.3 eliminates this vulnerability.
