The weakness was presented 09/16/2015 by John Villamil with Yahoo Pentest Team as HT205212 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2015-5874 since 08/06/2015. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 06/15/2022). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product increasing in the near future.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 86001 (Apple iTunes < 12.3 Multiple Vulnerabilities (credentialed check)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 124144 (Apple iTunes Prior to 12.3 Multiple Vulnerabilities (APPLE-SA-2015-09-16-3)).
