The convenience initializer in the Multipeer Connectivity component in Apple iOS before 9 does not require an encrypted session, which allows local users to obtain cleartext multipeer data via an encrypted-to-unencrypted downgrade attack.
The weakness was presented 09/16/2015 by Alban Diquet (@nabla_c0d3) with Data Theorem as HT205212 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2015-5851 since 08/06/2015. Attacking locally is a requirement. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
