A vulnerability has been found in GNU screen up to 4.3.1 and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is the function MScrollV
of the file ansi.c of the component Recursion Handler. The manipulation of the argument count
with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. The MScrollV function in ansi.c in GNU screen 4.3.1 and earlier does not properly limit recursion, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (stack consumption) via an escape sequence with a large repeat count value.
The weakness was presented 09/28/2015 (Website). The advisory is shared at savannah.gnu.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2015-6806 since 09/03/2015. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
