The weakness was disclosed 10/09/2015 (Website). The advisory is shared at support.apple.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-5865 since 08/06/2015. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.

The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 370192 (Apple Mac OS X v10.11 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2015-09-30-3)).

Upgrading to version 10.11 eliminates this vulnerability.
