The weakness was published 10/09/2015 by Maksymilian Arciemowicz with CXsecurity (Website). The advisory is shared at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2015-5878 since 08/06/2015. An attack has to be approached locally. A single authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.

A public exploit has been developed in Python. It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 370192 (Apple Mac OS X v10.11 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2015-09-30-3)).

Upgrading to version 10.11 eliminates this vulnerability.
