Adobe Flash Player 18.x through 18.0.0.252 and 19.x through 19.0.0.207 on Windows and OS X and 11.x through 11.2.202.535 on Linux allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted SWF file, as exploited in the wild in October 2015.

The weakness was disclosed 10/14/2015 as APSA15-05 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at helpx.adobe.com. The vendor was not involved in the public release. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2015-7645 since 10/01/2015. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

A public exploit has been developed by Google Security Research and been published 5 days after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as highly functional. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 86423 (Adobe Flash Player <= 19.0.0.207 Vulnerability (APSB15-27)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The impacted product is end-of-life and should be disconnected if still in use.

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 21439.
