Multiple memory corruption issues existed in the handling of font files. These issues were addressed through improved bounds checking.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 86603 (Apple iTunes < 12.3.1 Multiple Vulnerabilities (uncredentialed check)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Peer-To-Peer File Sharing. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 124198 (Apple iTunes Prior to 12.3.1 Multiple Vulnerabilities (APPLE-SA-2015-10-21-5)).
Upgrading to version 9.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
