Apple Mac OS X up to 10.11.0 Net-SNMP resource management

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

The weakness was published 10/21/2015 by Ken Farnen as HT205375 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2012-6151 since 12/06/2012. Access to the local network is required for this attack. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The advisory points out:

Multiple issues existed in netsnmp version 5.6. These issues were addressed by using patches affecting OS X from upstream.

The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 73173 (Oracle Linux 5 : net-snmp (ELSA-2014-0322)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Oracle Linux Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 122747 (Solaris 11.2 Support Repository Update (SRU) 3.4.1 Missing).

Upgrading to version 10.11.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (73173).
