CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in gdk-pixbuf up to 2.32.0. This affects the function pixops_scale_nearest of the file pixops/pixops.c of the component GIF Image Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a numeric error vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-189. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Integer overflow in the pixops_scale_nearest function in pixops/pixops.c in gdk-pixbuf before 2.32.1 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted GIF image file, which triggers a heap-based buffer overflow.

The weakness was disclosed 10/26/2015 (Website). The advisory is shared at ubuntu.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2015-7674 since 10/02/2015. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 86278 (FreeBSD : gdk-pixbuf2 -- head overflow and DoS (9272a5b0-6b40-11e5-bd7f-bcaec565249c)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 168891 (OpenSuSE Security Update for gdk-pixbuf (openSUSE-SU-2016:1467-1)).

Upgrading to version 2.32.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (86278), SecurityFocus (BID 76955†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-54116†). The entry VDB-78896 is pretty similar.
