A vulnerability was found in OpenAFS up to 1.6.14/1.7.32 (File Transfer Software). It has been classified as problematic. rx/rx.c in OpenAFS before 1.6.15 and 1.7.x before 1.7.33 does not properly initialize the padding of a data structure when constructing an Rx acknowledgement (ACK) packet, which allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information by (1) conducting a replay attack or (2) sniffing the network.
The weakness was shared 11/06/2015 (Website). The advisory is shared at openafs.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2015-7762 since 10/08/2015. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Upgrading to version 1.6.15 or 1.7.33 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 2 weeks after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
