Integer overflow in LibreOffice before 4.4.5 and Apache OpenOffice before 4.1.2 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a long DOC file, which triggers a buffer overflow.

The weakness was shared 11/10/2015 (Website). The advisory is shared at ubuntu.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-5213 since 07/01/2015. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.

It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks and running in the context l. Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 23816.
