A vulnerability has been found in Piwik up to 2.14.x and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function DisplayTopKeywords
of the file plugins/Referrers/Controller.php. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a server-side request forgery vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-918. The web server receives a URL or similar request from an upstream component and retrieves the contents of this URL, but it does not sufficiently ensure that the request is being sent to the expected destination. The DisplayTopKeywords function in plugins/Referrers/Controller.php in Piwik before 2.15.0, which allows remote attackers to conduct PHP object injection attacks, conduct Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) attacks, and execute arbitrary PHP code via a crafted HTTP header.
The weakness was disclosed 11/16/2015 (Website). The advisory is available at piwik.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-7816 since 10/14/2015. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
