A vulnerability was found in FFmpeg up to 2.8.1 (Multimedia Processing Software). It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function decode_uncompressed
of the file libavcodec/faxcompr.c of the component CCITT FAX Data Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
The decode_uncompressed function in libavcodec/faxcompr.c in FFmpeg before 2.8.2 does not validate uncompressed runs, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds array access) or possibly have unspecified other impact via crafted CCITT FAX data.
The weakness was released 11/17/2015 as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is available at git.videolan.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-8218 since 11/16/2015.
