A vulnerability was found in CloudBees Directory up to 1.637 (Cloud Software). It has been classified as critical. This affects some unknown processing of the file jnlpJars/ of the component Servlet Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, and integrity. The summary by CVE is:
Directory traversal vulnerability in CloudBees Jenkins before 1.638 and LTS before 1.625.2 allows remote attackers to list directory contents and read arbitrary files in the Jenkins servlet resources via directory traversal sequences in a request to jnlpJars/.
The weakness was presented 11/25/2015 by DiGiT with Digital Security (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at wiki.jenkins-ci.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2015-5322 since 07/01/2015. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1006 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 11549 (Jenkins Server Multiple Remote Security Vulnerabilities (Jenkins Security Advisory 2015-11-11)).
Upgrading to version 1.638 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at SecurityFocus (BID 77570†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-55497†).
