The weakness was disclosed 12/15/2015 by Tsubasa Iinuma (Inferno) with Google Chrome Security Team as MFSA2015-149 as confirmed security advisory (Website). The advisory is available at mozilla.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-7214 since 09/16/2015. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1592 by the MITRE ATT&CK project. The advisory points out:

Security researcher Tsubasa Iinuma reported a mechanism to violate same-origin policy to content using data: and view-soure: URIs to confuse protections and bypass restrictions. This resulted in the ability to read data from cross-site URLs and local files.

Upgrading to version 43 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
