OrientDB Server Community Edition up to 2.0.14/2.1.0 Studio OHttpSessionManager.java information disclosure

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in OrientDB Server Community Edition up to 2.0.14/2.1.0. Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the file server/network/protocol/http/OHttpSessionManager.java of the component Studio. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

server/network/protocol/http/OHttpSessionManager.java in the Studio component in OrientDB Server Community Edition before 2.0.15 and 2.1.x before 2.1.1 improperly relies on the java.util.Random class for generation of random Session ID values, which makes it easier for remote attackers to predict a value by determining the internal state of the PRNG in this class.

The weakness was presented 12/31/2015 (Website). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-2913 since 04/03/2015. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1592 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 86315 (OrientDB < 2.0.7 / 2.1.0 Weak Session IDs), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses and running in the context r.

Upgrading to version 2.0.15 or 2.1.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (86315) and SecurityFocus (BID 76610†). See VDB-79957 and VDB-79959 for similar entries.
