Outlook Express 6.0, when sending multipart e-mail messages using the "Break apart messages larger than" setting, leaks the BCC recipients of the message to the addresses listed in the To and CC fields, which may allow remote attackers to obtain sensitive information.
The bug was discovered 08/25/2004. The weakness was published 08/20/2004 by Juha-Matti Laurio with Microsoft (Website). The advisory is shared at support.microsoft.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2004-2137 since 06/14/2005. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at support.microsoft.com.
