The Extensions subsystem in Google Chrome before 48.0.2564.109 does not prevent use of the Object.defineProperty method to override intended extension behavior, which allows remote attackers to bypass the Same Origin Policy via crafted JavaScript code.

The weakness was released 02/14/2016 by Mariusz Mlynski with Zero Day Initiative (Website). The advisory is available at googlechromereleases.blogspot.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-1622 since 01/11/2016. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 07/08/2022). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product increasing in the near future.This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
