A vulnerability was found in Flexera FlexNet Publisher up to 11.13.1.2. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown part of the component Packet Handler. The manipulation of the argument 0x107/0x10a
as part of a Opcode leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Multiple buffer overflows in (1) lmgrd and (2) Vendor Daemon in Flexera FlexNet Publisher before 11.13.1.2 Security Update 1 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted packet with opcode (a) 0x107 or (b) 0x10a.
The weakness was published 02/24/2016 by ryan (Website). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-8277 since 11/19/2015. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
Applying the patch 11.13.1.2 Security Update 1 is able to eliminate this problem. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 24690.
