CloudBees Jenkins up to 1.649 CSRF Token Verification information disclosure

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in CloudBees Jenkins up to 1.649 (Continuous Integration Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown part of the component CSRF Token Verification. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability (CSRF). The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

CloudBees Jenkins before 1.650 and LTS before 1.642.2 do not use a constant-time algorithm to verify CSRF tokens, which makes it easier for remote attackers to bypass a CSRF protection mechanism via a brute-force approach.

The weakness was published 04/07/2016 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at rhn.redhat.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-0791 since 12/16/2015. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 89925 (Jenkins < 1.642.2 / 1.650 and Jenkins Enterprise < 1.609.16.1 / 1.625.16.1 / 1.642.2.1 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses and running in the context r. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 124994 (Fedora Security Update for jenkins-remoting (FEDORA-2016-0f490eea10)).

Upgrading to version 1.650 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (89925). Similar entries are available at 81697, 81698, 81699 and 81701.
