The _asn1_extract_der_octet function in lib/decoding.c in GNU Libtasn1 before 4.8, when used without the ASN1_DECODE_FLAG_STRICT_DER flag, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (infinite recursion) via a crafted certificate.
The weakness was disclosed 05/05/2016 (Website). The advisory is available at lists.gnu.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-4008 since 04/13/2016. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
