The Miller-Rabin primality check in Botan before 1.10.8 and 1.11.x before 1.11.9 improperly uses a single random base, which makes it easier for remote attackers to defeat cryptographic protection mechanisms via a DH group.
The weakness was shared 05/13/2016 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at marc.info. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-9742 since 08/04/2015. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1600 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 91583 (FreeBSD : botan -- cryptographic vulnerability (f771880c-31cf-11e6-8e82-002590263bf5)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 169971 (SUSE Enterprise Linux Security Update for Botan (SUSE-SU-2017:1222-1)).
Upgrading to version 1.10.8 or 1.11.9 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 2 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
