A vulnerability was found in Apple Mac OS X up to 10.11.4 (Operating System) and classified as critical. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component Kernel. The weakness was disclosed 05/16/2016 by Kostya Serebryany (Basti) with Nanyang Technological University as HT206567 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-1828 since 01/13/2016. Attacking locally is a requirement. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The advisory points out:

Multiple memory corruption issues were addressed through improved memory handling.

The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 91228 (Mac OS X 10.11.x < 10.11.5 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family MacOS X Local Security Checks and running in the context c. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 122912 (Apple Mac OS X v10.11.5 and Security Update 2016-003 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2016-05-16-4)).

Upgrading to version 10.11.5 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
