A vulnerability was found in QEMU (Virtualization Software) (the affected version is unknown). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function get_cmd
of the file hw/scsi/esp.c of the component 53C9X Fast SCSI Controller Support. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The get_cmd function in hw/scsi/esp.c in the 53C9X Fast SCSI Controller (FSC) support in QEMU does not properly check DMA length, which allows local guest OS administrators to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds write and QEMU process crash) via unspecified vectors, involving an SCSI command.
The weakness was published 05/20/2016 by Li Qiang with 360.cn Inc. (Website). The advisory is shared for download at lists.gnu.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-4441 since 05/02/2016. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. A simple authentication is needed for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
