The weakness was shared 05/14/2013 by Christoph Diehl, Christian Holler, Jesse Ruderman, Timothy Nikkel and Jeff Walden as MFSA 2013-41 as not defined advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at mozilla.org. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-1669 since 02/13/2013. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 66455 (FreeBSD : mozilla -- multiple vulnerabilities (4a1ca8a4-bd82-11e2-b7a0-d43d7e0c7c02)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. Upgrading to version 21.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
