Use-after-free vulnerability in the mozilla::plugins::child::_geturlnotify function in Mozilla Firefox before 21.0, Firefox ESR 17.x before 17.0.6, Thunderbird before 17.0.6, and Thunderbird ESR 17.x before 17.0.6 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (heap memory corruption) via unspecified vectors.

The weakness was shared 05/14/2013 by Abhishek Arya (Inferno) with Google Chrome Security as MFSA 2013-48 as not defined advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at mozilla.org. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-1679 since 02/13/2013. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 66429 (CentOS 5 / 6 : firefox (CESA-2013:0820)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks.
